Pastels Galore!

Have you heard about the pastel trend lately?  We are seeing them everywhere!  Read on for great ways to incorporate pastels into wedding planning, event decor, and even personal style!

Maximize creativity by starting with an organized space to pin up ideas and create a story board:

Keep a good collection of dishes on hand for events.  Mix and match pastels, brights, and patterns for an eclectic look:

Spring weddings and events lend wonderful opportunities to be playful with color.  Arrange table settings using whites to make pastels pop!  Try pairing pale yellows and greens together, and pale pinks and purples complement each other nicely as well:

Pastel wedding cakes can really add a soft and feminine touch:

Take gorgeous pastel bouquets to the next level by pairing them with metallic accents to catch the light:

Bridesmaid dresses in pastel hues have become extremely popular.  Almost any skin color can be complemented by these tones, and they are great for other spring and summer events as well.  Also, look for versatile pastel shoes that can take you through the summer, from weddings to outdoor barbecues:

Enhance pastel clothing and accessories with subtle pastel makeup.  Soft purples, peaches, and greens look great on eyes, while pale pinks and peaches are perfect for lips.  If you go wild for the pastel trend and are looking to stand out, you can always consider peach highlights, which are very popular right now!

Pastels can be great as focal points and also as accents to enhance neutrals or brighter colors.  Let us know how you decide to incorporate this trend for spring and summer!

How to: Make a cute Valentine's Day centerpiece!

It's easy to get tired of the typical Valentine's Day decorations, so make them your own with unique details!  For a recent photo shoot, we made these cute V-Day themed plant decorations that can serve as centerpieces or even gifts.  Read below for directions on how to make your own!

What you will need:
-glue gun
-scissors
-colored paper
-popsicle sticks
-ribbon or strips of burlap
-your choice of small plants

* When picking plants, succulents or any type of cacti usually hold up well and have a unique look.  (They also tend to go for under $5 each!)

1.  First, make your little paper valentines.  Cut out hearts and layer them, write/paint messages, or even add a photo on them as part of a gift.
2.  Glue your designs together, and then glue a popsicle stick to the base of each one.
3.  Next, cut ribbon or burlap down to size, wrap it around the little pots that your plant will come in, and glue edges to secure.
4.  Finally, stick each popsicle stick far enough into the plant for it to stand up straight.  Arrange the pots as you like, and that's it!!

This is a super fun and easy way to do some Valentine's Day decorating, regardless of your space or budget!

Top 5 Ways to Make Your Wedding More Personal!

Personal touches from start to finish make a wedding so much more special to both the couple and their guests.  Here are our top tips for customizing and adding details to your big day!

1.  Invite Creativity:  Personalized invitations will make guests feel welcome from the start.  Put a creative touch on the basic invite by adding free-hand drawing, painting, or pictures. Unsure of how to begin?  Enlist an artistic friend or relative for inspiration!

2.  Dine in Style:  Your reception should be fun and relaxing, so add details that make you and your guests feel at home.  Help friends and family find their seats by making cute table cards and hanging them up near the front of the room.  Table settings can be unique to each bride and groom.  Try details such as candles, flowers, antlers, antique bottles and jars, and even old family photos!  Wanting a change from the basic white tablecloth?  Layer colorful fabric over it, and add ruching so that the white cloth shows through, or even reverse it with the color underneath.  Personalize every place setting by writing each guest's name on cloth or paper doilies and placing them beneath clear or crystal plates.  This is a sweet detail that everyone is sure to remember!

3.  Delicious Details:  Create a dessert display that caters to different tastes.  Choosing a wedding cake that fits your style is much more important than trying to go over the top.  Little treats such as cupcakes are a great addition as well and are easy to pick up between trips to the dance floor!

4.  A Fond Farewell:  Favors are a great way to acknowledge your guests.  Fill mini Mason jars with something special such as hot chocolate or baking mix, candies, dried flowers, or candles, and place them near your exit.  They will leave feeling very appreciated!

5.  Show Your Smile:  Many couples take a series of pictures during the time between the ceremony and making their entrance at the reception.  Communicate ideas to your photographer so that you can add details, props, backgrounds, and elements that are unique to you.  These are keepsake photos that should really represent your style and special bond.  A signature photo is also a wonderful addition to your thank-you notes.  You put so much time into creating a customized and special day, so capture it!
